  About

The Games Society at the University of Newport have organised a gaming event called GS08. It's a general gaming event with PC and consoles being catered for. There'll be a number of console tournaments run on the dedicated tournament machines which anyone is able to enter.

The Games Society have asked us at eFragz to run the PC LAN party section so you can expect all the usual; a well run network, dedicated games servers, fun tournaments, organised games sessions and ever helpful staff on hand. We're really pleased to be able to work with the Games Society in this event because we're hoping for everyone to mix and take in both console and PC sides of the event.
What do I need to bring?

  1. PC base unit and monitor with all the gubbins including all cables. Don't forget keyboard and mouse!

  2. A four socket extension lead **Important**

  3. Keyboard, mouse and mousemat (a gamepad can also be used for certain games).

  4. 10/100 Mbps Network card (you may already have an onboard card).

  5. Headphones **Very important, no speakers will be allowed at the LAN!!**

  6. Operating system/drivers disks - essential if Windows has a hissy fit.

  7. Pre-installed games - Please ensure all games are installed prior to the LAN as it saves time and hassle (don't forget your game disks needed to play).

  8. Money - for entrance fee (unless you've pre-paid)! Also bring some money for food and any other tat that may be on sale.

  9. Snacks - pasties, crisps, drinks, sweets, biscuits, sandwiches, pot-noodles, pot-mash, cup-a-soups etc (water boiling facilities will be available).

  10. Sleeping bag and pillow (it's overnight so yo umay want to get 40 winks).

  11. A decent size bag to carry all the crap you take to the LAN.

This list is by no means the be all and end all, you'll find as you attend more parties you'll be able to pack up and set up your computer in no time at all and even manage to fit it all in to a shoebox (maybe)!
  FAQ

Q : Has eFragz been taken over by Newport Games society?
A : No, they've kindly asked us at eFragz to run the PC LAN party side of things at their latest event.

Q : Has the Newport Games society been taken over by eFragz?
A : No, see above dummy!

Q : If I buy a ticket for the PC LAN can I go to the console event?
A : Yes, a ticket for the PC LAN will give you full access to all console events and tournaments and also grant you access to use the dedicated consoles.

  Q : I don't have a PC but have a console, can I still go?
A : Yes, console only tickets are available direct from the games Society, £4.00 for Two day Event and £2.50 for One Day Event.

  Q : I have a PC and a console, can I take both?
A : Yes, but you will need to be able to hook your console up to your monitor as there will be no spare TV's.

Q : Can I play my console over the network against other console guys?
A : Yes, The consoles and PC networks will be linked. You will be able to play in any casual console games session from your PC desk against the others but to enter the console competitions you need to use one of the dedicated consoles in the console area.

Q : Will there be a place to sleep?
A : Yes, sleep isn't just for wimps and it's recommended you get a few hours to keep you on top form. There'll be a quiet room away from the excitement to get your head down. Remember your sleeping bags and pillows and maybe a camping mattress of some description.

Q : Can we visit the bar?
A: Yes, there's a nice bar area attached to and overlooking the event so it'll be cool to have a beer and take in the atmosphere. Mines a double by the way!

Q : Is this the last question of the FAQ?
A : Yes, unless I think of any more!
